How Mental Health Can Lead To Death

Death is defined as the permanent termination of the biological activities of a living being. Death is a natural phenomenon as birth and is inevitable. A person, if born, has to go through the stage of death. With age, the physical as well as mental health of a person starts deteriorating. However, the degree to which a person is healthy in his older age depends on his lifestyle and eating habits, to a great extent.

Causes of Death

There are four major causes of death of a person. These are:

Natural death

Accidental death

Homicidal death

Suicidal death

Causes of Natural Death

There are various reasons for a person to die a natural death. Natural death normally occurs due to aging. When a person grows older, his body loses its strength and the ability to fight diseases. With age, the person suffers from various age-related diseases, like cancer, diabetes, etc, which can subsequently lead to death of the person.

Lifestyle and other habits of a person play a great role in determining the number of years a person is going to live. If a person does not eat proper nutritious food and is deprived of essential nutrients in the body, then there are more chances that this affects the mental health of the person and eventually he may die.

Proper exercise keeps the body fit and maintains the mental health of the person. Physical activity is of utmost importance for any person of any age. Indulging yourself in moderate to high level of physical activities keeps your body fit and you don’t lose your strength soon.

Meditation and yoga are one of the simplest, yet superior exercises which a person must follow in order to maintain a healthy state of life. Meditation gives extra energy to the body from inside and if the instructions are followed well, it can help you to lead a healthy life.

As the saying goes, “Practice makes a man perfect”, a person who undertakes physical tasks such as jogging, walking and little exercises during middle-age, will be able to carry this agility even to his later stages of life. Exercise enhances the mental health of a person which reduces the deterioration of health and ultimately delays natural death.

Accidental Death

Death due to accidents is considered to be accidental death. There are many cases where after an accident the person succumbs to his injury on the way to the hospital. The ability to sustain injuries depends largely on the will power of the person to live. A person with a stable and healthy mind has the energy and will to fight injuries and emerge victorious.

Causes of Suicidal Death

A person commits suicide when he is depressed and stressed. This depends on the mental state of that person when he is going through a financial or emotional turmoil. If the mental health of a person is not stable, then during the times of distress, it is highly likely that the person might take a decision to take his own life.

People should always learn to distinguish between their profession life and personal life. There are a number of work-related mental health issues people suffer these days, although they are inevitable. However they can be curbed and kept under control. People who are not able to strike a balance between their professional and personal life are often over-stressed and depressed.

Divorce, death of a loved one, broken relationships, work pressure and study pressure are some of the common reasons that prompt a person to commit suicide.

Life is an ocean and god has given us brain as the boat or a ship to cross the ocean smoothly and safely. If a person wants to have smooth transition from life till death, then the person should take the ownership to keep himself fit and healthy so that his mental health is stable.

Aging Issues: Health Issues and Remedies

There is always a stage in everyone’s life when they are no longer able to do things they used to do when they were younger. This is not something which affects only certain people, but every human being is bound to pass through this stage. This is called Aging. As you age, along with the physical strength, your mental health also gets affected.

Age-related Health Issues

As a person ages, he suffers from various age-related ailments for example cardiovascular diseases, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinsons disease. As and when the person ages, his metabolism slows down gradually. The bone density and muscle tone also start to shrink resulting in reduced flexibility.

Due reduction in fitness, the level of insulin in the bode starts depleting and can result in diabetes, osteoporosis and high blood pressure. In this stage, the person is not able to carry out works which were once could be carried out with ease. This reduction in his ability to carry out simple tasks affects his mental health considerably.

The impact of free radicals on the body increases with age. Free radicals are by-products created when oxygen is used for burning food for energy. Antioxidants are produced naturally in the body to combat these free radicals, but decline with age. Free radicals then start harming the enzymes, DNA, cell membranes and proteins in our body and increase the risk of numerous diseases.

It is but obvious for a person to age. If he wants to age gracefully, then the onus lies on the person itself to plan and take steps in his middle-age to keep him fit in the later stages of life. Mental health is as important as physical health, so let us discuss some of the methods to keep ourselves hale and healthy as and when we age.

Physical Activities

Many studies have indicated the importance of being physically active as we grow older. Though we can’t control aging, we can definitely control our level of physical activity. The degree to which we maintain our mental health and indulge in physical activities, to a great extent, determines our health condition and well-being in the later stages of our lives.

Benefits of Physical Activities

In recent years, science has proved that a number of those natural age-related ailments which were once thought to be inevitable can now be reduced or delayed by maintaining a healthy weight and moderate physical activities. Regular walking is the best physical activity one can indulge in. Being physically active keeps a person’s mental health in excellent condition.

Healthy Diet and Meditation

It is a well known fact that the key to a healthy and long life lies in staying active, following a healthy and nutritious diet and practicing meditation to reduce stress. Diet plays a significant role in maintaining a healthy body. Reduction in animal-based food products and increase in intake of fruits and green leafy vegetables will help a great deal in life development and extension.

By meditation and yoga, a person can achieve perfect balance between the body and the soul and can accomplish superior mental health. Meditation not only keeps you active, but also helps in reducing stress and frees your mind and the body from all the mental tensions.

You should reduce the intake of fried food items and go for steamed stuffs which do not cause the vegetables to lose their nutrients. You should reduce the consumption of quick-digesting carbohydrate foods such as food items made from flour and sugar and increase the consumption of slow-digesting carbohydrate foods such as beans, whole grains, sweet potatoes, etc.

Foods high in antioxidants should be taken to combat excessive free radicals. Such foods are green tea, berries, plums, pomegranates, oranges, spinach, broccoli, peas, onions, pure chocolate and grapes.

Aging is something which cannot be controlled or stopped. However, with proper diet and exercise, a person can achieve a stable and enhanced mental health which is a great asset when a person grows older.

Social Standing of Homosexuality and Bisexuality in the Community

The homosexuality and bisexuality is not a vice, there is no need for degradation and never consider it as a mental health problem. Actually it is a variation of the sexual function produced by a certain arrest of sexual development. Several highly respectable individuals of ancient and modern times have been homosexuals

Most of the greatest men among them have tried to tell that is a great injustice to consider homosexuality as a crime, and they also found it very cruel. Several studies have proved that all human beings are born as bisexuals. After that they become heterosexual, bisexual or homosexual as a result of their experiences with parents and others. However, their mental health gets influenced due to their standing in the society.

Nevertheless, a homosexual orientation need not be viewed as a form of pathology. The homosexuality and bisexual relationships are common in Europe and USA. Although, medicine and mental health treatments helps to reduce the symptoms of homosexuality and bisexuality, it was not universally viewed as pathology.

Usually it is considered as a degenerative sickness in the Psychopathia Sexualis. Early in the twentieth century, it had been argued that homosexuality was inborn. So they never considered it as immoral, or a disease. Likewise so many homosexuals made outstanding contributions to society.

Mental health and discrimination due to the homosexuality and bisexuality

Homosexual and bisexual people are still facing many problems and the constantly experience discrimination across different areas. This discrimination can be experienced in discrete lifetime events, such as in day-to-day interactions with others who treat them poorly.

As a matter of fact, about 75% homosexual and bisexual men and women face discrimination. It may not be so frequent with the individuals with other demographic status like education, income, age, marital status and race/ethnicity. This discrimination has had negative consequences on the quality of their life.

Due to the great burden of perceived discrimination, homosexual and bisexual people, they find it very difficult to live a full and productive life. Sometimes their concerns are even brushed aside and are not appropriately addressed.

If we can control the differences in levels of discrimination subjected towards homosexual and bisexual people, it can actually release them from a lot of stress which could otherwise lead to mental health difficulties. It is very clear that discrimination has harmful mental health effects for sexual minorities.

Psychiatry with Homosexuality and Bisexual:

The mental health issues are seen more in homosexual and bisexual groups when compared with heterosexual people and therefore they go through a lot of psychological distress. The increased rates in suicides by the homosexuals and bisexuals have clearly proved this fact. However the reason for this awkward situation of the bisexual group is not very clear. Actually they are more antisocial because they are probably less likely to seek help.

Relation of Suicide attempts and mental health problem:

It is clear that the lifestyle factors or society’s stigmatization can cause to increase in the suicide attempts of homosexual or bisexual people. However, if the reasons for the suicide attempt were connected with homosexuality, about 66% was due to breakups in relationships and not due to outside pressures from society. The suicide attempts are about three times higher in homosexuals when compared with a heterosexual people.

The addictive or compulsive elements in homosexuality and bisexuality could also be the causes for the suicide attempts. If their lifestyle is out of control, they fall under great depression. Most of the young men today do not take precautions against the various sexual illness particularly HIV. Substance abuse and addiction and the sexual addiction problems can give rise to the suicide risks.

Therefore, the major reasons for suicide attempts are the breakups in relationships. The homosexuals are forced to have more partners and breakups. The median number of partners for homosexuals is four times higher when compared with heterosexuals. The long term homosexual relationships are rarely monogamous. All these factors proportionately increase the suicide attempts.

It can be concluded that the homosexuality and bisexual is not a serious mental health problem. It is only another way to experience the sexual pleasure for both men and women. It is basically they’re standing in society which causes mental issues.

Understanding sexuality and sexuality problems

Sexuality plays important role in creating stable relationships and families. Amongst the multiple functions of sexuality the function of producing babies is the most important. Sexuality connects people biologically, psychologically and socially. If you have sexuality problems they can not only impair your sex life but also your mental health.

What are sexual problems?

Many of the sexual dysfunctions are of physical nature or “mechanical”. That is not to suggest that there are no psychological reasons for sexual disorders. Physical conditions responsible for sexual disorders include pregnancy, menopause, cancer, chronic illness amongst others. Your personal problems with your partner make a dent in your sexual relationship with him/her.

What is the impact of sexual disorders?

Problems related with sex can lead to distress. If you are facing sexual problems you may suffer from related anxiety and frustration that can further cause insomnia and other associated illnesses coupled with adverse effect on your mental health. Apart from this, your relationship with your partner can suffer and the overall atmosphere in the family can be in disarray. There may arise, trust and commitment problems.

Sexual disorders mar your sexual performance. They give rise to conflict and this further makes it difficult for you to either have sex or enjoy it.

Different types of problems related with sex

Given below is the brief overview of sexual problems that affect your mental health:

Low sexual desire (Hypoactive sexual desire): You may have persistent reduced sexual urge or desire.

Sexual aversion disorder: You avoid genital sexual contact and sexual situations with your partner.

Female sexual arousal disorder: A failure of arousal, lubrication and swell during sexual relations.

Male erectile dysfunction (Impotence): You are persistently unable to achieve and maintain erection to complete the sexual activity satisfactorily.

Premature ejaculation: You ejaculate more quickly than desired by your partner.

Painful sex: As a female you feel pain during intercourse.

Male orgasmic disorder: A lengthy delay or absence of organism.

Female orgasmic disorder: You may have hard time achieving organism.

What are the causes of sex related problems?

Sexual response that you seek from your partner depends upon physical and emotional reciprocity that you share with partner. Your physical and emotional incompatibility can contribute to the relationship difficulties. This process can be so complicated that sexual problems may occur. Your sexual differences with your partner are also responsible for your sexual troubles and poor state of your mental health.

Some of the other causes of sexual disorders may include: you may have been abused or may have had bad experience with sex; you may have learned negative feelings about sex in your childhood; you may have suffered a sexual trauma; you may be having problems in coping with your anger, depression, drug and alcohol abuse; you may be on medication; you may have an infection etc.

What can you do?

Sexual problems are relatively common and they can cause distress, frustration and disharmony between the partners. Almost all couples have sex problems in their lives at some time or the other. If you are patient and feel concerned for your partner, many of these problems can be resolved. If you have a problem related with your health, you must see a doctor.

If you feel any pain in pelvic, genital or vaginal area you must not overlook and immediately consult your doctor. Always have an open and frank talk with your partner. This will help clear up conflicts between the two of you and relieve you of stress and make your relationship strong.

Have a free and fearless dialogue with your doctor who can refer you to other experts in case of requirement. You may go for sex counseling as an individual or jointly with your partner. The counseling succeeds in a big way in helping you feel relaxed and communicate better.

The last word

Adopt a healthy lifestyle. Stop smoking. Consume alcohol, if you have to, only in moderation. Regular exercises go a long way in leading a healthy sexual life. Have enough sleep. Sort out your relationship problems with your partner. These simple yet effective steps will go a long way in overcoming your sexual problems and getting your mental health in shape.

Parenting style in early childhood

The period from birth to the age of eight is considered as early childhood. This is the time when there is remarkable brain development and a solid foundation for subsequent learning is laid. This is also the phase when parents face many problems with regard to the development of the mental health of their children.

Areas of concern

As a parent you may have the following concerns with regard to your child’s development:

Physical development

Nutrition issue

Sibling rivalry

Coping with behavior problems and temper tantrums

From bad behavior to good behavior

You find it difficult to control your young child in early childhood. Have patience. It cannot be expected from a child to sit perfectly or behave the way you wish. It takes time. If you have tried a method of disciplining your child for several weeks you may try another method. Whatever method you choose, follow through it consistently. After all it concerns your child’s mental health.

Is hitting your child appropriate?

There is very thin line between child abuse and child discipline. To hit a child for whatever reason is not appropriate. However upset you might be with the issues related with the early childhood and mental health of your ward, keep cool and refrain from any physical punishment. There are more ‘cons’ of giving physical punishment to your child than ‘pros’.

Don’t be too concerned

Don’t just be too concerned about the delay in the development or “problem” you think your child is facing. It might be just your child may be a ‘late bloomer’ and it is just a matter of time that she would pick all the normal traits of a child.

On the other hand it is possible that your child is having some real problems with his mental health. In that case you lose valuable time if you keep waiting. An early evaluation and probable treatment could save more severe problems at the later stage.

You should not hesitate to seek help if:

You have already waited for a considerable time to see improvement.

You feel worried and it is not easy for you to wait any longer.

Your sixth sense tells you that there is indeed a growing up problem with your child.

Your child has some medical problems that need urgent attention.

Coping with the disabilities or disorders

Your child may have some disabilities or disorders in her early childhood such as learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, and Obsessive Compulsive disorders etc. You may be worried a lot about your child’s oppositional and defiant behavior, temper or tantrums. You are concerned about his mental health and the fact your child picks up quarrels with his siblings or beats them up.

Tale expert’s advice

Faced with all these problems, as a parent you feel helpless. You have read many kinds of books on parenting, childhood development etc. but this problem just does not go away. You start blaming yourself as a failed parent. It is time for you to seek an expert’s advice.

There is hope

It may take a little hard work, but most of the problems related with early childhood can be resolved. First of all you need to decide the nature of problem. It may so happen that what you perceive as problem may not actually be a problem. For example, if you see occasional ‘tantrums’

it may be just an age appropriate issue expected from a normal child.

There some are very simple and easy parenting rules that you can learn. As a parent you can make use of them to raise your child into a polite, respectful, helpful and cheerful individual. One of the most important things is to make sure that your child gets enough sleep.

Don’t have unrealistic expectations

Having unrealistic expectations can actually create problems. Your parenting guidance has to be consistent. Being very strict sometimes and lenient at other times will confuse your child. Have rules, set limits and consistent routines for your child. This will make the early childhood an easy exercise and his mental health will be in perfect order.

Mental Issues in Infants

Mental issues are the common problem amongst infants. For instance a new mother may feel that her child in not bonding well with her, foster children may have difficulty settling into their new family and environment or a baby keeps crying all through the night. Whatever be the reasons, it clearly signifies that the child is suffering from mental health issues.

During their growing years, children need to be socially and emotionally bonded with their families. This helps them to develop attachments and trust in the world. Apart from this, it also makes the child feel secure and safe. The life development stage of an infant is the most crucial stage in their lives.

What are the reasons for Mental Issues in Infants?

A toddler or an infant may suffer from mental issues due to a lot of reasons. It is scientifically proven that a child’s emotional and social competence level depends in the relationships that they experience in the early years of their life.

Lack of Early Nurturance: One of the reasons for infants to develop mental health issues can be lack of nurturance. In this busy world, when both the parents are working, it is very difficult to spend time with the child. The child may feel left out and this can affect the functioning of the brain.

Mental Trauma: Any negative events occurring in a child’s life can hamper their psychological levels. Incidences like domestic violence, natural disasters, negligence, accidents etc can affect the social and emotional stability in infants. In their growing years, infants need to be nurtured with love and affection, rather than negligence.

Lack of Interpersonal Interaction: The first 4 years of a child is a crucial phase. It is here that they learn to trust and develop secure attachments with their parents. Sometimes parents become too much involved in their own emotional problems that they neglect the crucial stages of their child. This leads the child further away from his parents since he feels neglected and unloved.

How do you know an Infant is suffering from Mental Issues?

Like all diseases and disorders, the mental health of a person comes with certain symptoms. Toddlers who suffer from mental issues display some signs of discomfort or displeasures. Some of the symptoms are as follows:

Lack of interaction amongst other children

Tantrums and Aggression in later life

Difficulty in communicating

Being aloof all the time

How to Overcome Such Mental Issues in Infants?

Bringing infants out of their mental health problems requires a great deal of effort from the parents’ side. Cooperation from both the parents can help the child to get back his confidence and fight against this issue.

The treatment to overcome these issues is as follows:

Interaction Guidance: This treatment helps in evaluating the relationship between the infants and their parents. The child and the parents will be made to do some activities together, so that the child can interact more with his parents. This will help to get the infant out of his shell and bond more efficiently.

Parent Infant Psychotherapy: In this treatment, the mother of the infant is questioned about her own relationship with her parents. By doing so, the therapist gets to know what is causing the emotional barrier between the child and his mother and how this can be overcome. When the mother gives more importance to her child, the child becomes more attached to her and can easily overcome his mental health issues.

Theraplay: This is a therapy directed at the infants and their parents. In this treatment the child is involved in a lot of fun filled activities with his parents so that he can develop his self esteem and improve upon his trust. This treatment is based upon the five natural qualities namely: Engagement, Structure, Challenge, Playfulness and Nurture.

Conclusion

Understanding the necessities of infants when they are growing up can help eliminate a lot of mental health disorders and issues. They will learn the meaning of trust and love and will be happy all the time. Love and affection are the two vital ingredients that will help in their life development.

Basic Vitamins and Exercises

Brief introduction to vitamin absorption

Nutrients absorption is essential for body functioning and the essential mental health. Due to illnesses, use of processed food, sedentary lifestyle, and aging, the essential nutrients do not get sufficiently assimilated.

This improper assimilation of nutrients in the blood stream leads to vitamin deficiency. The fundamental path to vitamin needs is absorption. Absorption in the body takes place through the enzymes. The enzymes are needed for the proper digestion of the nutrients in the stomach and the digestive tract. Absorption does not take place in the body without these enzymes. These enzymes also enhance mental health and capacity.

Benefits of vitamin B1 and its importance for mental health:

Vitamin B1 is one of the eight vitamins present in vitamin B complex group and it is also called as is thiamin. The chief characteristic of vitamin B1 is its ability to convert the carbohydrates into energy. This energy is required for proper functioning of heart, nervous system and muscle system of the body.

Vitamin B1 is particularly essential for the brain in terms of mental health and very useful for concentration and focusing. Vitamin B1 deficiency is usually associated mental symptoms which include fatigue, confusion and psychosis.

The severe deficiency of vitamin B1 causes Korsakoff Syndrome and Wernicke’s Ddisease. In both the cases, the common symptoms include short term memory loss and mental confusion. Vitamin B1 is very important to prevent the brain damage and it improves mental health and brain functioning.

What is the use of vitamin B12 and its relation to mental health?

The neurotransmitters are metabolized by the brain to perform the activity of producing serotonin. Vitamin B12 plays a vital role in its production. Vitamin B12 deficiency leads to a number of mental health problems like demyelinating myelopathy, depression, Alzheimer’s or dementia. This vitamin maintains a positive mood with the help of neurotransmitter norepinephrine.

The deficiency in B12 absorption exhibits depression and neuropsychiatric symptoms. Vitamin B12 plays a major part to produce serotonin which is essential to maintain the emotional health.

Inadequate serotonin levels in the body lead to problems with sleep, emotions, mood, sexual desire, and headaches. The brain requires adequate B12 to produce neurotransmitters in the body which is achieved by proper dietary intake.

What are the basic exercises required to enhance brain power?

Mental exercises to enhance brain power: Exercising the brain improves neuron cell growth. Mental exercises include playing card games, doing cross word puzzle, philosophical arguments, doing mental mathematics which all proves to improve mental abilities. It is recommended for the children to indulge themselves in such brain game activities.

Other mental activity includes performing and learning memory techniques, doing things that are creative and imaginative, writing your own lyrics to a song and singing. The children normally develop the skills as they grow up.

Physical exercises to enhance brain power: Indirectly physical exercises improve the functioning of the brains. Physical activities assist proper blood flow to the heart. It means better blood supply carries enough oxygen needed to the brain.

Regular physical activity increases brain power. Basketball, badminton, golf, soccer playing improves brain function. Coordination and precise timing activities like playing instruments, drawing and painting improves the mental health drastically. Meditation betters both mental and physical function. These activities can be even more helpful if adopted during the childhood days.

Physical activity and mental functioning are interconnected with production of neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters lead to increased physical activity and it aides the body in producing more volumes of brain chemicals required for memory and mood improvement, and function.

Physical activity directly affects the power of the brain which produces the necessary chemicals required for the proper functioning of the body. Exercise raises the antioxidant activity and maintains healthy brain cells.

All the vitamins in the B family are important for proper brain functioning. More particularly vitamin B12 and B1 play a major role in brain functioning and improving the mental abilities.

Food intake rich in vitamin B12 and B1 protects your nervous system and keeps your brain healthy. Vitamin B12 helps your body to get energy and enhances the brain cell functions. It is a key vitamin for good memory and thinking. Basic vitamins are required by the body for better life development and mental health wellbeing.

Brief Introduction to child development

There are no specific classifications related to the child development because there are many factors like the physical, emotional and mental health associated with the growth of a child. These three major factors are interlinked and one cannot exist without the other. Even if one of them stumbles the others factors will be affected.

In child development it is essential to find out the possible problems at the early stages so that it can be treated at the right time which can help the child grow and function normally.

The most common disorder of the brain which affects child development at the first stage is autism. Autism is a neurological development disorder which affects the social development, mental health, expressive abilities and communication skills of a child even till the adult years.

In other most common disorder of childhood is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder which is otherwise called as ADHD. The children exhibit hyperactivity in their working behavior.

How to deal with ADHD in child?

You’ll need to first assess them for their levels of hyperactivity. One of the foremost methods of helping the child in this condition would be to develop the technique to communicate positively.

The main aim of treatment is to help the child learn to control themselves and act in right behavior. Teach the child step by step to change their attitude and behavior and act normal. This way it helps the mental health development in a child who is suffering from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

What is the correlation of child development and ADHD?

These two are very closely interlinked with one another. More so, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder can determine the path of child development. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder has substantial strangling effects on the essential functions of the brain which are responsible for memory, organized thinking, reasoning, and emotional stability. The child’s developmental phases are affected by this disorder.

This behavioral disorder has a very bad effect on the mental heath of the child. In the early phase a confused pattern of child development and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder may be noted.

The retired with ADHD exhibits the symptoms which include excitability, irritability, and it is often very difficult to soothe and comfort them. They are very sensitive to sharp sounds and sights, extremely distracted, irritable, and they often cry. These babies have altered sleep patterns which affect their mental health in the early stages.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in toddlers exhibit conniptions. They have difficulty understanding the condition and are unaware about how to tackle frustrations. Therefore, they become very emotional and conniptions are the only way to express their feelings.

The child’s development is affected because of altered sleeping pattern. For normal developmental processes to happen in a child, regular sleep pattern is very essential.

This disorder even affects the development of social skills in a child. In this situation it is very painful to witness the difficulty through which they go through.

The self esteem in a child with this disorder is lowered as they are not able to cope with the social norms. This type of extended frustration leads to depression. Identify the symptoms at the early stages and provide proper intervention to help child development.

What is the treatment management for ADHD?

Medication: Psycho stimulants are given for children and adults with this disorder. These stimulants allow brain neurons to function normally. They help the neurons fire correctly which otherwise slowed down and impaired.

Self management: This is little difficult but with the help of the parents and proper organizing, it can be eventually achieved. Planning and organizing things help to extenuate some of the exasperating aspects of this disorder.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder groups and behavioral therapy:

This behavioral therapy helps to fight complex neurological problem which affects the mental health of the child. Psychological counseling helps a lot in this problem to recognize the symptoms and gain control over oneself. Proper intervention at early stages helps the child development processes to a very large extent.

Parenting and child development

Mental health can be defined as the ability to handle the stressful situation in your normal life. Clearly, the attitude of person clearly reflects the upbringing and the environment in the childhood days. Therefore, it is quite essential to build an atmosphere of support and positive attitude around the child to ensure its better future.

The mental health of a person depends on a number of factors. Some of them are cultural, social and the surrounding in which they grow. The parents are responsible for the good upbringing of a child and therefore they play a major role in their mental development. Parenting is a very sensitive responsibility which will reflect on the child’s future.

The process of parenting can be defined as promoting and supporting your childhood. It brings about physical, social and rational development of a child from infancy to adulthood. Parenting can also be termed as raising a child by providing all the support it needs in order to become a strong individual who is capable of handling the social responsibilities. It is not just the biological relationship.

There are many external factors responsible for the mental health of a child apart from parenting. Such factors include society and the government as well. It is not just the biological parents who fulfill the parenting responsibilities in this world. In the orphanages, these responsibilities are even taken up by the non biological parents who adopt the children.

Some of the responsibilities of parenting involve the following factors:

Giving all the physical needs and the security to the child in order to make the child strong enough to handle the stressful situations which are anticipated in its future life. The needs such as food, shelter and clothing are the basic ones.

Giving them the protection from all possible harms.

Imparting them with the skills required to lead a happy and successful life. The basic skills like calculating, reading and writing are to be imparted.

Providing them with the social values, both moral and spiritual, which will be useful after the child reaches the legal adulthood.

Creating an atmosphere in which the child can learn all the ethics and value systems which are bound with the social norms. These norms will shape the child’s beliefs and culture.

In a nutshell, parenting can be termed as improving the child’s mental health by providing the roots and wings of social values. Parenting can be classified as conventional models and modern models. In both the models, parenting uses reward and punishment methods.

The results of recent surveys strongly suggest that rewarding is the best possible means for good upbringing of a child. Punishment can lead to negative results.

Some of the examples of modern parenting models are:

Nurturant parent model – In this model the child is free to explore the world of opportunities of growth with the support of their parents. The children become more independent.

Strict father model – This model emphasizes on the disciplinary values which are normally imposed by the father.

Attaching parenting – This model makes a child to grow with the strong emotional bonding. There is absolutely no room for punishment in this model.

The mental growth of your child will depend upon the type of parenting you give it. We can bifurcate the parenting as providing the roots and wings. As the name suggest roots means the base or the foundation that you give towards your child’s future. With the values you gave, your child can live independently after attaining the adulthood.

The journey starts from the prom till he or she graduates. That means completing their basic educational levels. The confidence levels of the children increases with the education and it will help them all through their lives. The mental health of a child will be in a very good condition if the parenting is appropriate.
